The Heart beats on a rhythm and rate according to the body demands, this is controlled by electric stimulation originated and transmitted on an organized system, the place where this electricity is originated is called sinus node, when this organization is lost or altered an arrhythmia occurs and sometime this phenomenon most be treated by an artificial pacemaker placing.
What a pacemaker is? A cardiac pacemaker is a very small device that helps the heart to beat in a normal way, according to what the body demands and Its parts are the electrodes and an electrical generator (batteries).
- The electrodes are placed in the heart and are connected to the generator. The generator or battery delivers the energy and is the brain of the pacemaker, this is designed to last a period of 5 through 10 years and once its useful life has expired it should be changed for a new one (the generator).
- A minor surgery is necessary to place the pacemaker in site, this is done in a cath lab in a short procedure, the pacemaker should be evaluated some times in order to assure it is working properly, this can be made even by phone systems from your home.
